Riding with headlights off turned out to be a Hollister man's undoing as the investigating deputy found a Ragu jar filled with drugs.

Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday around 11:30 p.m. Sergeant W.C. Murphy observed a man later identified as 42-year-old Larry Onell Richardson driving on Williams Road with no headlights.

The man abruptly turned into a driveway and Murphy proceeded to investigate.

Richardson allegedly left a joint on the floorboard and the sergeant detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

A search resulted in the discovery of a spaghetti sauce jar that reportedly contained 8.1 grams of crack cocaine, 7.5 grams of powdered cocaine and 19.7 grams of marijuana. The jar also contained a digital scale.

Richardson was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a vehicle for the use of a controlled substance and driving without a license.

He was jailed on $10,000 bond and has a January 15 court date.
