A Scotland Neck man was charged last week for a July 30 sexual assault involving a child.
Halifax County Sheriff's Office Detective Obert Wiltsie said Phillip Antonia Roberts, 22, reportedly knew the victim, a child under the age of 13.
The sheriff's office received the report from the county Department of Social Services.
Roberts was charged with first-degree sex offense with a child and indecent liberties with a child.
He was arrested by Rocky Mount police on December 4 and jailed on $60,000 bond. He has a January 21 court date.
